When you install add-ons for Google apps like Drive, Docs, Sheets, or Forms, you may need to grant permission for access to your Google Drive. Here’s how to view and manage apps connected to your Google Drive.

Permission to access your Google Drive includes the ability to create, edit, or open files and view documents you use the add-on. You can view and manage apps connected to your Google Drive, make them defaults, see their product pages, or disconnect them.

View apps connected to Google Drive

Visit the Google Drive website and sign in with your Google account. Select the gear icon at the top right and select “Settings”.

Settings in the gear menu

In the pop-up window, select “Manage applications” on the left. Then you’ll see those apps connected to Google Drive on the right.

Manage connected applications

One option you have for a connected app is to make it the default. For example, if you have a PDF extension, you can set a specific application to open your PDF file by default instead of taking the step to select it, as shown below.

Open Google Drive with the menu

To do so, check the box for use by default next to the application.

By default the Use box is checked

You’ll notice several Google apps already marked as defaults, such as Google Docs, Earth, and Forms. You can uncheck the box next to that app if you want to use something else.

Another step you can take is to view the product page for the app. This is good if you can’t remember the details of an extension or want to double-check its permissions. Select the Options drop-down menu on the right side of the app and select “View Product Page”.

View the product page in the app's options menu

Then you’ll go to the app’s page on the Google Workspace Marketplace. When you’re done checking the details, use the X to close Marketplace and return to the Manage Apps section of the Settings window.

The Google apps you see in the list don’t offer this action in the options menu. And you can actually see a drop-down menu of options.

Disconnect the app from Google Drive

If you decide to disconnect an app from your Google Drive, it only takes a couple of clicks. Select the Options drop-down menu and select “Disconnect from Drive”.

Disconnect from Drive in the app's options menu

Confirm this action by selecting “Disconnect” in the pop-up window.

Once you’ve disconnected the app from Google Drive, open the service in the Add-ons or Extensions menu or with the menu for Google Drive files.

Open with menu before and after disconnecting the app

Note: If you see an app in the Extensions menu after you’ve disconnected it, for example, in Google Docs, you’ll need to reinstall it to use it.

When you’re done checking or taking an action in a connected app, select “Done” at the top right to close Settings.

You may want to make the application default to certain files or remove access from tools you no longer use. Either way, it’s a good idea to occasionally check those apps connected to your Google Drive.
