The automaker has a long history of producing high-performance, luxury models across its entire lineup. Moreover, the Sierra 1500 pickup is no different. How much is the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500?
According to GMC, the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 starts at $37,195. That’s the regular cab, standard box, base Pro model with two-wheel drive, before destination charge. Car and Driver list a starting price of $35,645, double that in the truck’s most expensive form. Furthermore, C/D recommends buying one of the mid-range trims, the Elevation, which starts at $50,045.
However, GMC’s lineup of full-size trucks now includes more luxurious models like the AT4 and Denali. Even better is the AT4X and Denali Ultimate, the pinnacle of an expensive vehicle. Unfortunately, with such quality comes a high price. The Denali Ultimate, the most expensive version of the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500, starts at $82,695.

Are the Sierra 1500’s standard features worth the price?
Standard features abound, starting with the cheapest version of the GMC full-size truck. However, it is up to the buyer how much the features are worth. It comes with either a four-cylinder or a 5.3-liter V8 engine, with the V8 being more expensive. Moreover, the initial version of the Sierra 1500 is an old-school truck.
Standard features on the Sierra 1500 Pro model include 17-inch steel wheels, LED headlights, chrome bumpers, remote keyless entry, vinyl floor coverings, and cloth or vinyl upholstery. Up front, a tilt-only steering wheel, six-speaker audio system, two USB ports, seven-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, front collision mitigation and lane-keeping assist are also added. Although the list is long, nothing of importance is included. For $35,645, we’d hope for a bit more technology and driver aids.

Even if you can afford to spend the money, the starting price of the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate may still scare you away. This is a very high amount for any type of pickup truck. What comes with it, and is it worth the money? According to Edmunds, a 6.2-liter V8 engine is standard, with an optional diesel option available.
For the Denali, owners get luxury amenities like a Bose audio system, 20-inch wheels, side steps, heated second-row seats, ventilated front seats, wireless charging, trailer blind-side assist and more. However, the Denali Ultimate gets all that and more. Upgraded 22-inch wheels, carbon-fiber composite bed, power-deploying side steps, sunroof, head-up display, tailgate-mounted speakers, adaptive cruise control, 12-speaker Bose audio, virtual mirror camera and Super Cruise semi-automated driving All join the Ultimate Lineup.
Is the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Worth the Price?
We do not recommend purchasing a model from the top or bottom of the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 range. However, Car and Driver disagrees with the recommended mid-range trim level. The Sierra 1500 base model doesn’t offer enough value, but the range-topping versions are too expensive for most pickup truck buyers. Especially if you plan to tow, tow, or work on your truck.
Mid-range models like the SLT and Elevation provide more value. For $48,000-$50,000, owners get heated mirrors, heated seats and a heated steering wheel. Other great features like remote start, LED bed lighting, multipro configurable tailgate, cruise control, 13.4-inch touchscreen, dual 120-volt power outlets and more are standard on these models. Purchasing an elevation trim level increases towing capacity.
In conclusion, some 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 models are worth the price. We recommend sticking with the SLT or Elevation models to get the most bang for your buck. Unfortunately, the base model is not very well equipped and the top of the range models are very expensive. However, if you have the money and those features are important to you, the Denali Ultimate has everything you could ask for in a full-size truck.
