This year marks the 30th anniversary of Goose bumpsand all these years later RL Stine is still churning out horror treats for all ages. Next up is a brand new adult horror comic series titled Nightmare stuffand Bloody Disgusting learned the original this week Goose bumps artist Tim Jacobus reunited with Stine for some killer covers!
As important to the success of the line as the stories themselves written by RL Stine, the Tim Jacobus artwork for that original series of Goose bumps books helped move tales of terror off the shelves like hot cakes, and Jacobus drew directly into that retro style to Nightmare stuffpreparing the variant cover for the next debut issue.
Jacobus writes on Instagram: “30 years ago, we did it every month. Now, it’s a rare pleasure to work with that man. RL Stine has created a new horror graphic novel for” big kids. “And Nightmare stuff it’s as dark as the name! “
“I was picked up to do the rounds again, creating a cover variant for the main issue,” Jacobus continues in his Instagram post. “Conjuring images for this guy never gets old. Only I do it! “
You can check out Jacobus’ cover below, which is pure Goose bumps glory!
The four-issue comic series will see Stine give her twist to the legendary monsters and the first issue of Nightmare stuff will arrive on the shelves September 2022.
“In the premiere of Stine’s reimagining, the monster you encounter is not what you thought it would be: you may be familiar with the classic story of a mad scientist bent on creating life, but what these two crazy brothers created is all one. Get ready for a darker, more creepy and even more terrifying series for horror fans who are ready to face their fears in … STUFF OF NIGHTMARES!
“I’m finally free to let out my most horrible fantasies! Hey, guys, stay away from STUFF OF NIGHTMARES, “said RL Stine.” It’s my first job on an adult horror comic. Horrible, gory and hopefully a lot of stomach-churning fun!
“For all of us who grew up reading RL Stine’s work, we now have something terrifying to sink our teeth into as adults, especially those who have a sordid love of Fear Street, EC Comics and classic horror,” said Bryce. Carlson, VP, Editorial and Creative Strategy BOOM! Studios. “I can’t wait for the Nightmare Guardian to lead everyone in this horrifying new series.”
Nightmare stuff Issue 1 will have a main cover by the acclaimed artist Francesco Francavilla (Beyond with Archie) and covers with highly collectible variants of illustrators Miguel Mercado (Powerful Power Rangers Morphin), Adam Gorham (The immortal Hulk), Jenny Frison (Wonder Woman), and Kyle Holtz (Wild Spider-Man), as well as an incredibly rare cover variant of the artist Bjorn Barends (Something is killing the children) signed by RL Stine and not one but two extra spooky glow-in-the-dark covers by Francavilla, in addition to the cover by Tim Jacobus.
