Release date, price and specifications
GM announced on social media that the next generation of the Chevy Colorado midsize truck is on the horizon. The truck will make its debut on July 28, 2022. Here’s everything we know about the all-new 2023 Chevy Colorado redesign.
Will there be a 2023 Colorado?
Although General Motors has not announced an actual release date for when the 2023 Chevy Colorado trucks will arrive in dealer showrooms, we expect an official release date of July 28, 2022 to be announced.
The previous generation Chevy Colorado was announced in the final months of 2013 and was in dealer lots in mid-2014. With the current trends, the redesigned Chevy Colorado will be launched in the final months of 2022.
Is the Chevy Colorado getting a redesign?
Yes, the Chevy Colorado is being redesigned. For the next generation of this mid-size truck from General Motors, we expect the most drastic change in exterior and interior styling, reports Car and Driver. The current Chevy Colorado is nearly 10 years old, having debuted at the LA Auto Show in November 2013. Although the current truck gets a facelift in 2021, it’s nothing more than a redesigned front fascia. For the all-new 2023, we can expect a brand-new aggressively designed truck.
In a teaser video already posted to GM’s social media outlets, we can see glimpses of the projected Safari Bar. We can also see an aggressive front fascia with headlights similar to the Chevy Blazer style. The rear of the truck is similar in style to the taillights and tailgate found on the full-size Chevy Silverado. Although the interior is hardly shown, we can see that GM is planning to use the steering wheel already found in the current Chevy Colorado.
price

The 2023 Chevy Colorado is expected to offer relatively similar trim packages to the current 2022 model offerings. With that said, the current generation Chevy Colorado starts at an MSRP of around $25,435 for the work truck model. The 2023 Colorado is expected to remain in that price range.
The current Colorado offers an LT trim with some added V6 power for around $30,000 MSRP, and the 2022 Colorado will hit its highest trim with the ZR2 model, which could hit around $47,000 MSRP. Shown in the 2023 teaser video is the Colorado ZR2, which is expected to be priced the same as the current model.
What engine is in the 2023 Colorado?
The 2023 Chevy Colorado is expected to be an all-new model, with many of the underpinnings remaining the same as the previous generation. Currently the Chevy Colorado has three engine offerings. The first option is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 200 horsepower at 6,300 RPM and 191 lb-ft of torque at 4,400 RPM.
A 3.6-liter six-cylinder engine producing 308 horsepower at 6,800 RPM and 275 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 RPM and an enthusiast favorite, the 2.8-liter Duramax turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine making 13,8140 horsepower are available. RPM and an impressive 369 lb-ft of torque at 2,000 RPM.
Chances are, the 2023 Colorado will retain at least two of these engines, possibly dropping the 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine altogether or replacing it with the 2.7-liter turbo four-cylinder engine found in the Chevy Silverado.
The Colorado is expected to retain its two available automatic transmissions, a 6-speed and an 8-speed. These transmissions have worked well in getting the current Chevy Colorado excellent fuel economy. In fact, EPA estimates reach 20 mpg city and 30 mpg highway on some trim levels.
As we await the official Chevy Colorado announcements at its July 28 debut, it’s exciting to think about what the next-generation Chevy midsize truck has to offer.
