Dangerous temperatures in Rimworld

A has four parts Rim World Colonies commonly affected by adverse temperatures: food, crops, animals, and colonists. Temperatures below 10C help preserve food Rim World, and prevent it from spoiling completely below 0C. However, high temperatures cause food to spoil faster, quickly emptying stores and larders. Similarly, crops grow more slowly as temperatures drop and may stop growing altogether if the minimum or maximum temperature listed for a particular crop is exceeded. Crops that fall below 0C begin to die rapidly, forcing players to harvest them quickly or lose the good.

Like crops, colonists and animals also have a comfortable temperature range. For colonists it is between 16-21C, but this range can be extended by wearing warmer Rim World clothes Colonists begin to take mood penalties when they are above or below their comfort temperature, which translates into health consequences when temperatures become extreme. Very low temperatures lead to hypothermia and subsequent frostbite, which must be treated, or the colonist may lose the affected part of the body. Extremely high temperatures cause heat stroke, which increases in severity if colonists are not moved to a cooler area, eventually leading to unconsciousness and death.

How to manage temperature in Rimworld

Players have a few different ways to manage the temperature for their settlers Rim World. The most low-tech methods of maintaining temperature are passive coolers and campfires. A passive cooler requires wood and can keep a small to medium sized room at a comfortable 17C as long as the outside temperature is not extreme. Similarly, a campfire heats a room to 30C if it’s not dangerously cold outside. Thicker walled rooms insulate more and allow passive coolers and campfires to be more efficient.

For players advanced enough to use advanced technology Rim World For things like components, there are a few more options for managing temperature. Heaters and coolers require electricity to operate, but can heat or cool many rooms efficiently. Connecting rooms with vents will automatically share their temperature, meaning players in cold or hot biomes will want to cluster their rooms together to share heat/cold. Coolers can also be used for cooling and heating, as they expel cool air on the side marked with the blue arrow and hot air on the side marked with the red arrow. This is very useful in colder biomes, as players can use coolers to maintain a freezer in the summer and help warm rooms in the winter.
